    Hilliard Law attorneys secured a $310 million verdict against “Funtime” Handelsgesellschaft M.G.H., the manufacturer of the defective Orlando FreeFall attraction at ICON Park, for the family of Tyre Sampson. On March 24, 2022, Tyre, who was only 14 years old, fell out of the ride and suffered fatal injuries. The manufacturer could have spent a total of $660 to equip the ride with seatbelts but chose against it. In light of the case, Florida passed the Tyre Sampson Act to improve amusement park ride safety regulations.

    In September 2021, Hilliard Law attorneys secured a $50 Million settlement for the family of a man who sustained serious injuries in a commercial trucking accident. The father of four was preparing to take a left-hand turn when an 18-wheeler attempted to pass him in a no-passing zone, striking the rear of his car, and causing it to burst into flames. The decedent suffered extensive burns and was paralyzed due to neck injuries. He was hospitalized for 4-months and passed away due to complications from his injuries after being sent home.

    Mr. Hilliard was the lead class counsel in Haese v. H&R Block, a class action lawsuit involving every Texan who received a rapid refund from H&R Block (approx. 300,000 plaintiffs). He assisted other class counsel in forcing H&R Block to disclose it received kickbacks for arranging loans between its tax preparation clients and predatory lenders. The settlement for his clients was over $50 million.

Both drivers were hired as independent contractors by one of the world’s largest online retailers and were required to use their unbranded personal vehicles and clothing to complete deliveries. A homeowner opened fire on the two workers, thinking they were robbing the property. The company refused to mediate the case and said it owed the injured workers $0 for the incident.

    In May 2013, Mr. Hilliard was the lead trial attorney who obtained a $25 million jury verdict in a premises liability case in Nueces County, Texas. His client, a security guard for a downtown Corpus Christi building, was severely beaten while at work. The $25 million judgment is the 2013 No. 1 verdict in Texas for a premises liability case.

    Mr. Hilliard was the lead trial attorney in a case involving a woman who was injured in a two-vehicle accident. The driver of the second car, an employee of Coca-Cola, was talking on her cell phone at the time of the accident. That verdict was the largest 2012 jury verdict in the nation for a case involving a back injury requiring surgery. It was also the third-largest motor vehicle verdict in Texas for 2012 and ranked No. 11 in overall verdicts in Texas for 2012.
