CP4 Fuel Pump Mass Tort Attorneys
CP4 Fuel Pump Failure Lawsuits
CP4 high-pressure fuel injection pumps installed in several recent American-made cars, trucks, and SUVs have a reportedly high rate of early part failure. When this part fails, it can damage fuel lines, crack gears within the engine, and more, resulting in the need for expensive repairs before the vehicle can be used again.
Our mass tort attorneys are currently investigating CP4 fuel pump failures and how they might be caused by an inherent product defect. We can help clients nationwide (except for Texas [see ‘CP4 Fuel Pump Litigation Updates’ section below]) who have been frustrated by their vehicles’ breakdowns linked to a CP4 fuel pump failure. Thanks to our decades of collective practice experience and long history of successful case results, including those won for mass tort clients against product makers, you can be confident when choosing us for legal counsel.
Vehicles Affected by CP4 Fuel Pump Failures
Vehicles that are known to be manufactured with CP4 fuel pumps include:
- GM:
- Sierra trucks with 6.6L V8 Duramax LML engines (2011 – present)
- Savana vans with diesel engines (2010 – 2011)
- Sierra diesel trucks with RPO ZW9 chassis cabs or pickup boxes (not all)
- Chevrolet:
- 3500 Silverado trucks with 6.6 V8 Duramax LML engines (2011 – present)
- Express vans with diesel engines (2010 – 2011)
- Ford:
- Pickup trucks with 6.7L V8 PowerStroke diesel engines (2011 – present)
- Dodge:
- Ram pickup trucks with 3.0L diesel engines (2014 – present)
- Jeep:
- Grand Cherokees with 3.0L diesel engines (2014 – present)
Do you see your vehicle on this list? Did it have an engine failure recently? It could very well be connected to a catastrophic failure of the CP4 fuel injection pump.
Suspected Causes of CP4 Fuel Pump Failures
The CP4 fuel pump was designed by Bosch, a European company that designs with European diesel fuel in mind. European diesel fuel has more sulfur than diesel that is sold throughout the United States. The low-sulfur diesel in the U.S. does not lubricate the CP4 fuel pump well, and this inadequate lubrication to this specific part of an engine is believed to be the main reason by CP4 fuel pumps keep failing in American-made cars. In other words, Bosch did not account for American fuel differences and how that would impact its product.
Mechanical engineers also note that American-made diesel engines tend to run more efficiently and under a lower average pressure level than European-made engines. Bosch CP4 fuel pumps may struggle to operate as intended in a lower-pressure environment, which causes air bubbles to slip into the system. Air inside an engine can cause metal to grind against metal, possibly sending metal shavings into the fuel injectors and fuel lines, eventually destroying the engine.
