Fisher-Price Recalls Over 2 Million Snuga Swings After Infant Deaths: What Parents Need to Know

Fisher-Price, in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a recall of more than 2 million Snuga Infant Swings after five infant deaths were reported.

These tragic incidents occurred when infants were placed in the swings for sleep, leading to suffocation. The recall affects several popular models sold across major U.S. retailers.

The Fisher-Price Snuga Swing Recall: Key Details

Fisher-Price, a trusted name in children’s products, has issued a major recall of its Snuga Infant Swings. The recall was prompted by the heartbreaking reports of five infant deaths when the swings were used for sleep. These deaths occurred because the product's design does not safely support babies while they sleep, posing a significant risk of suffocation.

According to the CPSC, more than 2 million swings were sold across the U.S. through retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Target between 2015 and 2024. The recall affects 21 models of the Snuga Swing, which come in a range of different colors and toy accessories.

The CPSC’s full list of recalled swings includes the following models:

  • My Little Snugakitty™ Cradle 'n Swing
  • My Little Snugabunny™ Swing

Fisher-Price Receives Pushback on Recall Remedy

According to the recall, consumers are urged to immediately cut off the headrest and remove the body-support insert from the swing before continuing to use it. Fisher-Price, a division of New York-based Mattel, also provides a $25 refund to those who remove and destroy the headrest and body-support insert. Detailed instructions on safely removing and disposing of these parts are available on Mattel's recall website at www.service.mattel.com.

However, the CPSC has expressed concerns about this recall. In a statement, CPSC Commissioner Richard L. Trumka Jr. criticized Fisher-Price’s response, calling the recall “flawed.” Trumka stated that the remedy was insufficient and urged families to discontinue using the swings.

“My advice: get your $25 refund and throw this product away; do not keep it in your homes because even after the so-called ‘repair,’ this product will still be unsafe for infant sleep,” Trumka said.

Trumka also pointed out that Fisher-Price has faced similar issues in the past, referencing recalls for other infant products linked to deaths, such as the "Rock 'n Play" and "Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers."

While Fisher-Price has not commented further, families are urged to err on the side of caution and discontinue using the swing even after completing the suggested remedy.

Consumer Rights in Product Liability Cases

You may have legal options if your child has been injured by the Fisher-Price Snuga Swing or any other defective product. Product liability laws protect consumers by holding manufacturers, distributors, and retailers accountable for harm caused by unsafe products. In this case, families who have experienced injuries or losses due to these swings may be eligible to pursue claims for compensation.

Injured parties may have grounds for a claim if:

  • The product was used as intended and caused harm.
