Dynacare, which is owned by Dynarex Corporation, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have expanded the company’s recall of baby powder products that may have been contaminated by asbestos. The recall originated in September but has now grown to include more than 40,000 bottles of baby powder products, including 14oz and 4oz bottles, sold on Amazon and shipped to 35 states. Anyone who has purchased a Dynacare brand baby powder product has been warned to discontinue its use immediately because repeated exposure to asbestos-contaminated talc powder has been linked to various forms of cancer.

If you purchased and used Dynacare baby powder, you may have been exposed to asbestos due to product defects—and you may have the grounds to take legal action. Talk to a trial lawyer from Hilliard Law about potentially filing a product liability lawsuit. We are based in Texas but can help with select cases nationwide, so call (361) 882-1612 now.

Has Anyone Been Hurt by Dynacare Baby Powder?

At this point, no injuries, illnesses, or adverse events have been reported related to using Dynacare baby powder products. However, consumers have still been urged to stop using the products for any purpose, such as for feminine hygiene or use in diapers.

As has been shown in many talc powder lawsuits filed against Johnson & Johnson in recent years, asbestos exposure becomes more dangerous with time and repetition. People who have used contaminated Dynacare baby powder may have already been harmed by the product, but it will not be clear or diagnoseable for months or years.

Exposure to asbestos-contaminated talc powder products has been linked to the following and more:

  • Lung cancer
  • Mesothelioma
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Throat cancer

Extent of the Dynacare Recall

35 states are now included in Dynacare’s baby powder recall. Originally, 13 states were included, but the company released more information about its product shipments and determined that it and Amazon sold potentially contaminated baby powder products in 35 states, starting in January 2024.

How Could Asbestos Contaminate Dynacare Baby Powder?

Dynacare baby powder uses talc powder, just like Johnson & Johnson baby powder. Talc is a naturally occurring mineral that is mined and extracted. However, the FDA has warned that talc deposits usually form near asbestos deposits, so asbestos can contaminate and remain in the talc unless the mineral is very carefully extracted, processed, and purified.

If asbestos-contaminated Dynacare baby powder is used repeatedly, trace amounts of asbestos particles may stay on surfaces and linger in the air before being inhaled, which has been linked to lung cancer and mesothelioma. If the product is used for feminine hygiene purposes, it might cause ovarian cancer, too.
